Hurricane Helene · inland North Carolina · September 2024
The outcome

Displaced residents had access to hygiene until power and water were restored to their communities.

The Emergency

A national retailer needed complete care-site infrastructure across 4 storm-hit communities.

After Hurricane Helene disrupted inland North Carolina, a national big-box retailer planned emergency care centers in impacted communities. Each site needed power, lighting, and water as well as accessible restrooms, showers, and laundry.

The retailer asked LDR to coordinate the full temporary infrastructure response across all 4 locations.

For Multi-Site Leaders

How multi-site teams can prepare to support emergency care sites.

Coordinate the complete site requirement. Plan power, lighting, water, restrooms, showers, and laundry as one operating system so the services arrive and work together.
Set accessibility requirements up front. Include wheelchair-accessible restroom, shower, and laundry trailers in each site's equipment plan.
Plan beyond local availability. Be ready to move equipment into communities where the storm has disrupted normal access.
Plan service after setup. Ensure ongoing equipment maintenance supports care sites throughout their operation.

Prepare to support every location after a major storm.
